Diyan Achjadi was born in Jakarta, Indonesia to a West-Javanese father and an English-Canadian mother, and spent her childhood moving between Jakarta, Hong Kong, London, and Washington DC. She received a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art (NY) and an MFA from Concordia University (QC). Achjadi has exhibited widely at galleries and film festivals across Canada and beyond, including solo presentations at Centre MAI (Montreal), Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (Victoria), Oboro (Montreal) and AIR Gallery (New York, NY), among others. Achjadi is the recipient of a 2017 Artist-Initiated Public Art Commission from the City of Vancouver, and will be producing a suite of hand-made posters for construction sites over the course of the year. She is an Associate Professor at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, BC, teaching courses in print media, foundation, and visual arts.
