Projects 2012-2021 > A Series of Impositions (2014)

A Series of Impositions recombines details from 18th- and 19th Century porcelain paintings and textile designs, medieval bestiaries, Chinoiserie imagery, Javanese batik patterns, and fragments from Dutch maps into a large-scale drawing that explores visual residue of the colonial enterprise to seek moments of cultural cross-contamination. Arduously crafted, this drawing was executed over an 8-month period.
