NonSerie (In Commute) (2019)
NonSerie (In Commute) was produced for How far do you travel?, a project curated by Kimberly Phillips for the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver in partnership with TranslinkBC.
The pattern takes the form of Chinoiserie as a point of departure. Its pictorial elements are derived from Dutch prints depicting Java found in the Rijskmuseum print collection, and on online auction sites. Interspersed between these are cloud forms from Chinese porcelain and textiles that arereminiscent of patterns found on Javanese batiks.
